How do I connect to PAL 3.0 with an Android device?

NOTE:  These instructions were created and work on Android 11.  Scroll down for instructions on previous versions.

 

  1. Tap 'settings' or the setting gear on your phone.

  2. Tap 'Connections'.

  3. Select 'Wi-Fi' from the list.

  4. Make sure the 'Wi-Fi' selection is switched on.
     
  5. Tap 'PAL3.O'.

  6. Enter the following settings:

    EAP Method: PEAP
    Identity: Career account username
    Password:  Career account password
    CA Certificate:  Use system certificates
    Online Certificate Status:  Don't validate
    Domain:  purdue.edu
    Auto reconnect:  enabled

    Advanced ->
    Phase 2 authentication:  MSCHAPV2
    Anonymous identity:  leave blank
    Proxy:  none
    Metered network:  Detect automatically
    MAC address type:  Phone MAC

  7. Tap 'Connect'.

 

 

NOTEThese instructions were created and work on Android 6.0.1. and 8.0. Scroll down for instructions on how to connect to PAL using Android 2.1.

  

1.       Tap 'settings' or the setting gear on your phone. Alternately you can click the wifi icon if available.

2.       Select 'Wi-Fi' from the list.


 

3.       Make sure the 'Wi-Fi' selection is switched on. 

4.       Tap 'PAL3.0', or tap and hold to see the option for 'Manage network settings'.


 

5.       Leave the following defaults set:

Network Name = PAL3.0

Security = 802.1x EAP

EAP method = PEAP 

Phase 2 authentication = none

CA Certificate = Don't Validate

User Certificate (if showing) = (unspecified)

 



NOTE: We have received reports that some customers may need to explicitly select MSCHAPV2 under "Phase 2 Authentication" in order to connect successfully. This appears to vary from device to device.

NOTE:  If you are configuring an Android 7.1.1 Google Pixel phone, you may need to select 'Use System Certificate' in the 'CA Certificate' field.  If you use this option, you may also need to enter 'purdue.edu' as the 'Domain'. 

6.       Scroll down to 'Identity'. Enter your career account username under 'Identity' and enter your career account password under 'Password'.


 

7.       Tap 'Connect' to save your settings and complete setup.

8.       Confirm you are connected to PAL by looking for the word 'Connected' underneath PAL3.0
 

   
 

These instructions were created using Android 2.1.

  1. Tap the 'Menu' button and select 'Settings'.
     
  2. Select 'Wireless & Networks' from the list.


     
  3. Make sure the 'Wi-Fi' selection is checked.


     
  4. Tap 'Wi-Fi Settings'.
     
  5. Scroll to the bottom and tap 'Add Wi-Fi Network'.


     
  6. Enter 'PAL3.0' in the Network SSID field.


     
  7. Select these settings:
    • Security: 802.1x Enterprise
    • EAP Type: PEAP
    • Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2

    NOTE: For Android OS 2.3 or higher the only setting that changes is Security: 802.1x EAP.
     

  8. Leave both 'CA certificate' and 'Client certificate' fields blank.
  9. Scroll down, enter your career account username and password in the 'Identity' and 'Password' fields.
  10. Leave the 'Anonymous Identity' field blank.
  11. Select 'Save' to save your settings and complete setup.
